Grape Wine Recipe - Tips For Your Success Using Grapes

This is a basic overview of a recipe is for the production of grape wines. The easy tips included will be sure to help you enjoy the wine making process as you implement your grape wine recipe. Slight adjustments to the ingredients used can yield an eclectic collection of tastes and flavors. I would recommend trying a basic fruit wine, such as grapes.

If you have never made a home made wine before, don't worry, these tips are designed to ensure your success, so that you don't end up wasting all your efforts.

Wine

Below I have included a simple overview to the recipe and how it works to remove some of the "mystery" that surrounds it, and to help you get started. I think you will enjoy it.

Grape Wine Recipe - Tips For Your Success Using Grapes

What Ingredients To Use

For this recipe you will need some basic ingredients such as 2 teaspoons pectic enzyme, sugar, 15 pounds of white grapes, white wine yeast, and Campden tablets (or strong sulphite solution).

An Overview Of The Process

The first thing you will need to do is to pick the grapes, remove them from the stalks and place them in a plastic bucket. If the grapes are fully ripe they can be crushed easily by hand or with a sterilized wooden block.

Next, add the pectic enzyme, and one crushed Campden tablet or 1 teaspoon strong sulphite solution. Stir well, cover with an upturned plate, then cover the bucket and leave for 24 hours. Press the grapes or strain through a strong nylon straining bag, squeezing the bag to extract all the juice.

Take an S.G. (specific gravity) reading of the juice and adjust with sugar syrup to 1.080. Pour into a demijohn and add an active yeast starter. Plug the jar with cotton wool and when the fermentation is active replace with an airlock.

Leave in a warm place and when the fermentation is finished, in about 10-14 days, rack the clearing wine from the lees into a clean jar and remove to a cool place. After 2 days rack again. This time adding 2 Campden tablets or 2 teaspoons strong sulphite solution.

Now you let them age and mature in for 12 months before bottling.

Finding Good Grapes

When growing grapes you need good summer weather to enable the vine to produce grapes with a high sugar level, and a low acid content. A wine made from grapes that haven't had the chance to completely ripen will be of poor quality. It will usually have a low alcohol level with high acidity.

If the grapes can be left on the vine a far superior wine should be achieved. This is because the maximum sugar level in the grapes can be achieved, which in turn, produces a higher quality wine.

Although there are a number of fruits that be used to make wine, grapes are the standard choice, and will yield the best results for your grape wine recipe.

Home-made Strawberry Wine - The Simplest Recipe

With a perfect blend of the freshest and sweetest fruits, strawberry wine is among the delicate and exquisite wines you can make at home. If you are unrelenting in making a strawberry wine, you should plan this in advance especially if you are thinking of serving this for a particular occasion because strawberry wines need to age for one year.

To start the winemaking process, gather the needed ingredients. They include seven pounds of whole, freshly picked strawberry fruits. Wash them and hull. You will also need 2 galloons of boiling water, lemon juice and five pounds of sugar.

Wine

To begin the preparation, mash the strawberry fruits in a large crock, or any fitting casserole. Cover the mashed strawberries with boiling water. Add the lemon juice and stir the mixture quickly for around two minutes. You may set this aside, covering with a linen cloth. Rest the crock in a dark and cool area, and make sure to stir it everyday for a week.

After a week, purify the concoction through cheesecloth that is double layered and strain them in a large bowl, thoroughly discarding the strawberry pulp. Mix the strawberry liquid and the sugar, stirring them constantly until the sugar is dissolved. Pour into a container and let it stand for another week, still stirring daily.

When the second week is over, you may pour the strawberry juice into a galloon of wine bottle, preferably glass-made. Cork them loosely. Let it rest in a dark and cool place for about three months. When you see that the wine is no longer bubbling and perfectly clear, you may pour it into individual wine bottles, cork them and let them age for a year. By doing so, you will be serving and tasting a deliciously homemade strawberry wine. This recipe can yield about 40 servings or two galloons.

Strawberry wine may vary accordingly. You can choose to taste it semi sweet, lightly sweet or sour or completely sweet.

Strawberries provide favorable effects to one's health. In addition to having low amount of calories and fats, these fruits are also rich in fiber, folate, antioxidants, potassium and vitamin C. compared to bananas, oranges and apples, they top as far as nutrient contents are concerned.

Apart from strawberry wine, the fruit can also be a perfect ingredient to make cereals, salads, yogurts, muffins, cakes and desserts. They can be eaten dried, frozen or fresh.

Wine Recipe - How to Make Mulled Wine

Nothing beats a nice mulled wine during an autumn or winter's evening. Mulled wine, in most cases, is usually red wine combined with a variety of spices and served warm. It is very easy to make, and perfect for dinner parties, holiday parties as well as a nice evening "nightcap".

There are a variety of mulled wine recipes. Gluhwein, popular in German-speaking countries, combines red wine, slowly heated and mixed with cinnamon sticks, vanilla pods, cloves, citrus (usually orange), and sugar. When served, garnishing it with the cinnamon stick ads a nice touch, and allows you to stir your wine so it's functional as well as flavorful.

Wine

A traditional recipe for mulled wine is very simple. For every pine of wine you wish to mull, add in 1 cupful of water and then sugar & spice to taste. Boil the spice in the water until the flavor is extracted. Add the wine & sugar. Bring the entire mixture to boiling-point. Pour & serve.

Spices that are typical for this type of wine include cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, or mace. You can mull almost any kind of wine, but port and claret are the most popular. It's important that the pot or vessel that you use for mulling be carefully cleaned and kept only for mulling purposes as any other use can spoil the flavor of the wine itself.

There are tons of recipes online for mulled wine, and even non-alcoholic mulled beverages as well, for those who do not consume alcohol. No matter which recipe you choose, you'll be bound for a tasty beverage to keep you warm and cozy during the forthcoming colder months.
